Death of A Marriage
by Tina Jenkins Bell
directed by Maya Vinice Prentiss
About
It is often said it is human nature to fight the very thing we’ve prayed would happen. This certainly seems to be Caroline Peel James predicament in Death of a Marriage when her life suddenly makes a severe right turn. Peele is in her 60s but still considers herself to be living her prime when she discovers her husband Lucius has dementia. His status causes her to wrestle with her own mortality such as: things she never did but still wants to get done, trips still on her “to do” list, an intergenerational group of friends she still enjoys interacting with, and a level of vitality she has the courage --- that evaded her in her prior years--- to explore and put to good use. Her eyes are wide with possibilities and no end points until she receives the devasting news about her husband.
