Who is Freedom?

About

Set in 2012 Chicago, during President Obama's second term, Freedom Collins, a high school senior caught between family pressure and his own path to self-discovery, ponders what freedom truly means to him.

After uncovering the truth about his family’s past, Freedom’s mother, Judy, is compelled to reveal the raw realities of her addiction and the dangerous pull of the streets that led to her 17-year incarceration. Through raps she wrote in prison, Judy pours out her love, regrets, and hope—offering a lifeline to her son. Reluctantly, Freedom begins to trust her, feeling her strength and love ignite something within him. This sparks his own creative fire, inspiring him to finish a rap of his own.
