Announcing: Definition @ 55th

We are thrilled to announce operating responsibilities of the Hyde Park performance venue located at 1160 E 55th St.

Rendering of Definition Theatre’s new Hyde Park space, Definition @ 55th.

Home to our 2023 season, we will now utilize Definition @ 55th as our current programming space. While simultaneously raising capital for a permanent building down the street at 6400 Cottage Grove in Woodlawn, we view this as an incredibly great step forward to making our home on the Southside.

All productions in our 2024 season will be hosted at this venue. This includes the world premiere of Judy’s Life’s Work by Loy A. Webb, directed by Michelle Bester (running February 2–25, 2024), and An Educated Guess by Juan José Alfonso, directed by Artistic Director Tyrone Phillips (running May 3–26, 2024),

Beginning later this winter, we will extend the use of this venue to host various local events and accommodate other organizations. With a capacity for up to 150 individuals, the venue will be available for rentals starting March 2024. For inquiries, please direct correspondence to rentals@definitiontheatre.org.

“This new space and partnership address the critical need for a dedicated home for artists, students, patrons, and community organizations on the Southside. Our approach aims to be a catalyst for both artistic and social transformation. We break down barriers for creatives while simultaneously fostering a vibrant and equitable community. Our core belief is in providing accessible and inspiring opportunities for all, ensuring a thriving cultural landscape.”

Neel McNeill, Executive Director

We appreciate your ongoing support and enthusiasm as we embark on this exciting chapter. Definition Theatre is committed to creating an enduring cultural legacy, and we look forward to welcoming you to our new interim home.
