Doriane Miller

About

Dr. Miller, a Chicago native, is the inaugural director of the Center for Community Health and Vitality at the University of Chicago. The Center for Community Health and Vitality’s mission is to improve population health outcomes for residents on the South Side of Chicago through community-engaged research, demonstration and service models. Dr. Miller incorporates the visual and performing arts into her day-to-day work in community health education, specifically in the area of the health impact of violent trauma. Dr. Miller is the author of three plays, ‘It Shoudda Been Me’ addressing the issue adolescent depression in the face of community violence, ‘Wish You Were Here’ addressing the recognition of intimate partner violence and ‘Fish’ a character driven play set against the backdrop of the Great Migration. It Shoudda Been Me was produced by Chicago’s eta Creative Arts Organization in repertoire from 2011-2013. ‘Wish You Were Here’ was produced as part of University of Chicago’s Community Grand Rounds series in December 2010. Dr. Miller received her medical degree from the University of Chicago. She completed a Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency and a General Medicine/Clinical Epidemiology Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.
